La vie monastique dans l’Égypte aujourd’hui
Résumé : L’article présente d’abord les prémices du renouveau copte dans la deuxième moitié du xixe s., avec la création des écoles du dimanche et le développement des études coptologiques, puis le rôle joué dans l’Église copte par des laïcs mieux sensibilisés aux réalités socio-économiques. Il évoque ensuite l’itinéraire de Mattâ l-Maskîn et décrit la vie au monastère de Saint Macaire qu’il a contribué à revivifier en 1969, ainsi que l’ouverture aux autres confessions chrétiennes qui s’y vit. Il donne enfin un aperçu des autres monastères et des diverses formes de consécration tant masculines que féminines qui témoignent de ce renouveau, pour s’interroger en conclusion sur leur avenir.
Abstract : The article begins by presenting the premises of the Coptic renewal in the second half of the xixth century, with the creation of Sunday Schools and the development of coptological studies, and later the role that the laity, privy to socio-economic realities, played within the Coptic Church. He goes on to mention Mattâ l-Maskîn’s itinerary and describes life in the Saint Macaire monastary which l-Maskîn contributed to revive in 1969 as well as open to other Christian confessions. Finally, he offers a glimpse of the other monasteries and the various forms of consecration both masculine and feminine that bear witness to this renewal, and concludes by considering their future.
