Le Covenant et les recherches ecclésiologiques actuelles de la Communion anglicane
Résumé : Cette contribution est une version mise à jour du premier chapitre d’un ouvrage, Anglican Theology, publié en 2008. Après avoir rappelé la tension entre « l’autonomie provinciale », le « centre » traditionnel de l’anglicanisme, souvent identifié à l’héritage historique ambigu de l’Église coloniale, et l’idée d’une Église « mondiale » avec ses questions de pouvoir et d’autorité, l’auteur présente les circonstances de la crise de 1998 qui a conduit à la réflexion sur une Charte (Covenant) liant les membres de la Communion. Puis il expose le processus de rédaction de ce texte, et les modèles de catholicité différents mis en œuvre lors de la réunion du GAFCON à Jérusalem puis de la Conférence de Lambeth en 2008.
Abstract : The following article is an updated version of the first chapter of a study entitled Anglican Theology, published in 2008. After underlining the tension between « provincial autonomy », the core of Anglican tradition, often identified with the ambiguous historical heritage of the colonial Church, and the idea of a « Global Church » and the ensuing issues of power and authority, the author presents the circumstances of the crisis of 1998 which led to the elaboration of a Chart (Covenant) devised to bind the members of the communion. The author then outlines the text’s composition proper, and the models of Catholicity introduced during the GAFCON meeting in Jerusalem, and later at the Lambeth conference in 2008.
