Le saint et grand Concile de l’Église orthodoxe (Crète, 2016) entre épreuve et promesse. Un écho luthérien
Résumé : Observateur luthérien au Concile de Crète, l’auteur invite à évaluer cette assemblée selon des critères orthodoxes et selon ce qui était possible. Dans cette perspective, il souligne d’abord que, malgré turbulences et défections, elle a pu se tenir au terme d’un processus sérieux et nuancé, sans provoquer de schisme. Puis il examine les textes conciliaires sur les relations aux autres chrétiens et au monde en concluant que l’orthodoxie est entrée alors dans la modernité en se montrant à la fois fidèle à la tradition et capable de s’exprimer sous forme critique et dialogale.
Abstract : The author, who was a Lutheran observer at the Council of Crete, invites us to evaluate this gathering according to Orthodox standards, as well as to what was possible. From this perspective, he emphasizes first of all that, in spite of all the commotion and defections, the Council was nevertheless able to take place at the end of serious and nuanced process without, in the end, leading to a schism. Then he examines conciliar texts relating to relations with other Christians and with the world, eventually concluding that, at the Council, Orthodoxy entered into modernity, showing that it was able to be faithful to tradition, and at the same time to express itself both critically and dialogically.
