Luther notre « maître commun » ? Regards sur le document Du conflit à la communion
Résumé : Après avoir présenté l’arrière plan et le contexte du document, en le comparant notamment à celui sur Luther, publié en 1983 par la Commission, et en le resituant dans la recherche plus ancienne illustrée par J. Lortz, l’auteur luthérien commente d’abord le chapitre historique, remarquant notamment le manque de référence au protestantisme radical. Puis il s’arrête sur celui qui traite des principaux thèmes théologiques de Luther en soulignant son caractère sommaire et qu’il n’y est plus question d’une différence fondamentale entre catholiques et protestants ni de distinguer plusieurs aspects de la pensée du réformateur. Enfin, il se penche sur le travail de mémoire, les défis et les perspectives actuels en s’interrogeant sur les rapports des Églises luthériennes au réformateur avant d’évoquer le défi de la réception.
Abstract : After presenting the background and context for the document, namely by comparing it to Luther’s text published by the Commission in 1983, and by situating it among the kind of older research exemplified by J. Lortz, the Lutheran author first analyzes the notable absence of any reference to radical Protestantism. He then dwells on the chapter that deals with Luther’s primary theological themes by highlighting its cursory form and the fact that it no longer is about the fundamental difference between Catholics and Protestants nor about distinguishing several key characteristics of the reformer’s thinking. Finally, he tackles the duty of remembrance, today’s challenges and perspectives by questioning the relationships between Lutheran churches and the reformer before examining the challenge of reception.
