L’Église copte à la lumière de la Révolution égyptienne de 2011
Résumé : Après avoir rappelé la diversité des situations des membres de la communauté copte d’Égypte, l’auteur dresse un tableau de l’Église copte orthodoxe et de son renouveau sous les papes Cyrille VI et Shenouda III, puis elle montre comment elle tendait à devenir moins monolitique, notamment sous l’influence d’une importante diaspora, de fortes personnalités comme Matta al-Maskîn et de l’essor du protestantisme, avant d’analyser les conséquences de la Révolution de 2011-2013 et finalement de présenter les défis oecuméniques auxquels elle doit faire face, sous la conduite du pape Tawadros, dans une conjoncture socio-politique profondément transformée.
Abstract : After calling to mind the wide-ranging positions of the members of Egypt’s Coptic community, the author paints a picture of the Coptic Orthodox Church and its renewal under the popes Cyril VI and Shenouda III, then shows the ways in which it was becoming less monolithical thanks especially to the influence of a significant diaspora, and to strong personnalities such as Matta al-Maskîn as well as the rise of Protestantism, before analyzing the consequences of the 2011-2013 revolution and finally presenting the ecumenical challenges it faces today under the direction of Pope Tawadros, in a dramatically altered socio-political conjecture.
